Are you struggling to establish and maintain a morning routine? You’re not alone. Many Americans find themselves giving up quality sleep to fulfill other responsibilities. If you want to fit breakfast, exercise and mindfulness into your morning, you’ll want to start to plan out your mornings. Read on to find out how to implement healthy habits into your daily routine.
Prep the Night Before
Do you have to commute to the office or take your kids to school in the morning? Improve your morning by setting your things out the night before. Pack your bag, pick out your outfit and know where your essentials are to seamlessly get ready the next day.
Set Reasonable Alarms
Try to wake up a few minutes earlier than you need to. This way, you won’t have to rush out of bed. Take a few minutes to open your eyes, sit up, stretch and place your feet on the ground. Instead of a blaring, loud alarm, consider setting a gentler tone to start your morning.
Incorporate Meditation
Once you’re up, try to take a few minutes to yourself before you start your day. Find a quiet place to sit and take deep breaths in through your nose and out your mouth. Try to stay present in your meditation and not let your mind wander towards your to-do list for the day. If you’re new to meditation, there are lots of meditation apps or playlists that can help you get started.
Eat Breakfast
Though it seems self-explanatory, a healthy breakfast will do wonders for how you feel in the morning. Coffee alone isn’t enough to get you through the day, so take a few minutes to grab some fuel. If you find yourself rushing in the mornings, consider preparing your breakfast the night before so you can grab it on the go.
Stretch and Exercise
Set yourself up for a productive day by incorporating time for exercise into your routine. Get outside for a brisk walk or set up your yoga mat for a mindful morning stretch. However you like to exercise, try to make time for a few minutes of movement before you set out for your day. Your mental and physical health will thank you.
